Mary Virginia Martin (December 1, 1913 – November 3, 1990) was an American actress, singer, and Broadway star. A muse of Rodgers and Hammerstein, she originated many leading roles over her career including Nellie Forbush in South Pacific and Maria von Trapp in The Sound of Music. She was named a Kennedy Center Honoree in 1989. She was the mother of actor Larry Hagman.

5 de nov. de 1990 · Mary Martin, the Broadway musical legend who portrayed Nellie Forbush and Maria von Trapp but who was Peter Pan to a mesmerized world, has died of cancer, it was reported Sunday.

A muse of Rodgers and Hammerstein, she originated many leading roles on stage over her career, including Nellie Forbush in South Pacific (1949), the title character in Peter Pan (1954), and Maria von Trapp in The Sound of Music (1959).
Mary Martin. American actress and singer. Married to Richard Halliday (1940-1973, his death), mother of Larry Hagman . She received the Donaldson Award and the New York Film Critics Circle Award in 1943 for "One Touch of Venus". In 1955 she received a Tony for "Peter Pan", in 1956 she received an Emmy for appearing in the same role on television.
