Beard fine, dense white, yellow tipped at base. “This plant is a vigorous grower and has lax, slender, glaucous blue-green leaves, tinged at base. Its flower stalks are of medium height, well-branched and freely produced. The individual blooms are compact, well rounded, and fragrant. It is an excellent white for massing or for cut flowers.
In 1924, Ida and Horace Darwin and Dame Ellen Hume Pinsent donated £5000 to Cambridge University to endow a scholarship for "original research into any problem which may have a bearing on mental defects, diseases or disorders." It continues today as the Pinsent-Darwin Studentship in Mental Pathology, named after their sons who died in WW1.

As a father, Charles Darwin was distraught over losing Annie, scared that his relationship with his wife was the cause of their children’s illnesses.
