9 de feb. de 2023 · Kimbra works with Ryan Lott to create the songs on the album, and though creative, there is a focus and consistency issue. “foolish thinking” is a tender moment, with Kimbra’s sensual angelic voice delivering an emotional melody. Unfortunately, some of the electronic sounds and placements do not fit the beauty and emotion of the piece.
There's just too little of Kimbra's own kaleidoscopic sense of melody and arrangement across the often-sparse A Reckoning. It's not a bad record and Kimbra is still playing with different genres and surprising collaborations as she has in the past decade. What often feels missing is her own unique stamp as an artist.
Another excellent album by Kimbra. This disc is more up-beat than The Golden Echo, I'd say. On this, I enjoy the deeper bass, and electronic sounds. I am a fan of Kimbra's music and her singing style, so I always buy the tangible (cd) item to support her. (Likewise, if you haven't heard the artist "Lights", check her out, too.)
