Held’s paintings demonstrate a thorough and thoughtful experimentation. Ultimately, he questions the nature of space, form, and perception not only in painting but in the phenomenological understanding of our own dimensional existence. 10 de ago. de 2008 · Al Held: The Evolution of Style is the topic of the second exhibition in the Hampton series. ARTIST BIO Al Held (1928¬–2005) is best known as a second- generation abstract expressionist. He was born on October 12, 1928 in Brooklyn to a working-class Jewish family.
There Held created six monumental "Taxi Cab" paintings, of which this is the largest. To keep the studio clean, Held unrolled large sections of photographers’ backdrop paper. He eventually adopted the paper as a support, realizing his dynamic gestural style in unmixed color—newly developed Liquitex acrylic paints.
16 de may. de 2024 · Al Held (October 12, 1928 – July 27, 2005) was an American Abstract expressionist painter. He was particularly well known for his large scale Hard-edge paintings. As an artist, multiple stylistic changes occurred throughout his career, however, none of these occurred at the same time as any popular emerging style or acted against a particular art form.
