July 24, 1876: Julius Peter Heil, Wisconsin's 30th governor, was born on July 24, 1876 in Germany. He immigrated to Wisconsin in 1881 and settled in Milwaukee as a young man.
Julius P. Heil, governor, and Walter S. Goodland, lieutenant governor, respectively, defendants. The court having assumed original jurisdiction upon the petition of the attorney general, a complaint was duly filed and motions for judgment by Julius P. Heil and Walter S. Goodland were made for the purpose of raising issues of law upon the facts alleged therein.
He was attorney general for Wisconsin (1937-1938), but was defeated for re-election in the Republican landslide of 1938. In 1942 he was elected governor over the incumbent Republican, Julius P. Heil (q.v.), but died before taking office.
