In Deltarune's world, Gerson is quite literally a goner. And his name is an anagram for 'Goners'. Hmm. I suspect that during a later episode of Deltarune, we may encounter a mysterious, shadowy version of Gerson - an echo from Undertale's timeline. Just like the Goners we see in Undertale, but with the worlds the other way around.
I've been thinking about how Gerson in Deltarune seems to have some parallels with Gaster. He doesn't appear in person, but is constantly referenced. He is described as "brilliant" before dying and being replaced by Alphys. In Deltarune, this information comes from Alvin; in Undertale, from the Gaster followers.
