In 1934, American tennis star Ellsworth Vines did some advertising for R.J Reynolds’ Camel cigarette brand. He was 23 years old at the time, and was among the world’s best players. The magazine ad at right shows Vines in a full-page endorsement for the cigarette in his tennis attire, depicted as smoking a cigarette at the end of a tennis match.
