Humanitarian Grants Program (HGP) is a program of a private, family foundation that continues Doris Buffett’s legacy of giving “until the last check bounces”. Roberta “Bertie” Bialek Elliott has a long history of volunteerism and philanthropic support, especially on the Monterey Peninsula in California and at her alma mater, Northwestern University in Chicago. Mrs. Elliott was born in Omaha, Neb. and graduated from Northwestern in 1954 with a degree in history and Phil Beta Kappa honors.
However, I can tell you from personal experience that Doris Buffett gives away far more than just her money, she gives her heart as well. Her generosity, and more than that, her friendship has meant the world to me for the several years that we have known each other. I truly believe that God loaned the world an angel when He gave us Doris Buffett.
