Hans Hofmann. Nacido en Weissenberg, Alemania, creció en Munich, donde estudió arquitectura antes de dedicarse a la pintura. Entre 1904 y 1914 vivió en París, experimentando con la pintura abstracta. En 1915 regresa a Munich, creando una academia de pintura que dirigió hasta 1931, fecha en la que se traslada a los Estados Unidos.

Although Hans Hofmann never joined the American Abstract Artists, he encouraged its membership and sent a letter of support when the organization was formally established. Yet, through his students, who represented not only a significant number of the membership, but an important counterbalance to the geometric formalists, Hofmann's influence within the group was remarkable.

With that connection, he bridged the gap between two of the most influential communities of artists in the 20th century and inspired a generation of painters.
Hans Hofmann was a German-born American abstract expressionist painter. Hofmann was born in Weißenburg, Bavaria on March 21, 1880, the son of Theodor and Franziska Hofmann. When he was six he moved with his family to Munich. Here his father took a job with the government. Starting at a young age, Hofmann gravitated towards science and mathematics.
