Jorge Carrera Andrade is recognized in Latin America as one of the most important poets of the 20th century. Born in Quito, Ecuador, Andrade was a poet, essayist, and journalist as well as a diplomat who worked in Peru, France, Japan, and the United States. Among his books translated into English are Micrograms (2011, Wave) and Reflections on Latin American Literature (1973, SUNY Press).

He was widely regarded as one of the most influential Latin American poets of the twentieth century both during his lifetime and after his death.
Nota introductoria. Jorge Carrera Andrade nació en Quito, en 1903, y murió en la misma ciudad el 8 de noviembre de 1978. Es, con Gonzalo Escudero, Alfredo Gangotena, César Dávila Andrade 1 y Jorge Enrique Adoum, uno de los mayores poetas ecuatorianos de este siglo, y el más conocido en el exterior. De un modo distinto a la filosofía, el asombro está en la raíz de su poesía.
Jorge Carrera Andrade was an Ecuadorian poet, historian, author, and diplomat during the 20th century. He was born in Quito, Ecuador in 1902. He died in 1978. During his life and after his death he has been recognized with Jorge Luis Borges, Vicente Huidobro, Gabriela Mistral, Pablo Neruda, Octavio Paz and Cesar Vallejo as one of the most important Latin American poets of the twentieth century.
