Hace 3 días · The de la Warr chantry chapel (1535) in the second bay of the south arcade is the sole example in Sussex of that form of building within building which evolved from the practice of flanking a chantry altar with screens; it is made of Caen stone, and is interesting for its mixture of Gothic and Renaissance detail, the latter evidently derived from pattern-books.

In the late 16th century a timber-framed house, the mansion of William Comber recorded in 1625, (fn. 79) was built in the south-east quadrant of the moated area, and in 1727 it was L -shaped.

Fourteen years later Cecily Dowager Lady De La Warr was discharged £278 2s. 6d. arrears of rent for the site of the monastery of Wherwell.
