Xala and the more monumental Ceddo are hands down my favourite of the 6 I've seen. His earlier films are a lot more basic (and imo less interesting). Black Girl especially feels like him trying to find his voice and him rubbing heavily off of European cinema at the time (he was trained in Moscow) which I think results in the film not really saying all that much.
