Leading a company of 15 men-at-arms and 40 archers, Richard 3rd Baron Scrope of Bolton fought in the Battle of Agincourt, and then acted as a naval commander in the Siege of Harfleur. Following the English successes in the 1415 campaigns, Richard returned to the north of England.

He, in 1608, sold them to Sir Henry Neville, the lord of the manor, to whose successors the rectory and advowson have since belonged.
