The Library, 1623–5, is of architectural interest for the premeditated use of revived Gothic forms in the reign of James I.

In 1613 Trinity College obtained by exchange with the town the land on both sides of the river at the back of the College. These pieces, together with the parts acquired by St. John's College in 1610, completed what are now known as the Backs.
