Hace 4 días · Interior of Whitehall Gate House. The gatehouse escaped the Fire of 1698. It lasted until 1765, when it was found to be "in so ruinous a Condition" as to be in great danger of falling. It was thereupon demolished.

Hace 2 días · On 16 October 1834, a fire broke out in the palace after an overheated stove used to destroy the Exchequer's stockpile of tally sticks set fire to the House of Lords Chamber. Both Houses of Parliament were destroyed, along with most of the other buildings in the palace complex.
