Using members of the Ben Pollack Orchestra (Matty Matlock, Eddie Miller, Gil Bowers, Nappy Lamare, Harry Goodman, Ray Bauduc) Manone recorded a mix of original jazz tunes and Tin Pan Alley pops with a driving rhythm and outstanding solos.

He based the song on an instrumental he had written with trumpeter Wingy Malone in 1930 called “Tar Paper Stomp,” which had also been recorded by bandleader Fletcher Henderson in 1931 as “Hot and Anxious.”
