Most of the dvd sequels were just cash grabs that tried to bank of off the originals like Mulan 2 and especially Pocahontas 2 (which is a terrible movie that shouldn’t exist).

Cinderella is an exquisite reincarnation of Snow White, embodying the same sympathy and grace, and with the same rapport with animals (particularly the chateau's many mice, whom she names and dresses herself). Like Snow White, it's easy to feel protective of her right away.

Once the couple gets together, the will-they-won’t-they tension dissipates, leaving us with the faded afterglow of infatuation and a looming future of tedious domestic conflicts.

Maybe I’m just getting easier to please as I get older, or maybe it helped having rock-bottom expectations, but Amazon’s jukebox musical “Cinderella” was fun; I laughed and found myself singing along. It was exactly what I needed.
