Since then, Baku's Art School, which Azimzade had directed from 1928-1938, was named after him. Most of Azerbaijan's greatest artists have received training in this institution. They tribute Azim as being one of the first major artists in their country and for his social conscience.
Azimzade received no artistic education and was self-educated; [1] [2] [3] in 1906 he began publishing paintings concerning social and political issues in magazines which represented the beginning of Azerbaijani satirical graphic art.

Arif Shamil oglu Gaziyev (January 2, 1937 – September 3, 2021) was an Azerbaijani painter, sculptor and People's Artist of Azerbaijan (2018). Life. Arif Gaziyev was born on January 2, 1937, in Erivan, Armenian SSR. He graduated from Azim Azimzade Baku Art School in 1958 and studied at V. Surikov Art Academy in Moscow (1965).
