Thomas William Coke, 1st Earl of Leicester (6 May 1754 – 30 June 1842), [2] known as Coke of Norfolk or Coke of Holkham, [3] was a British politician and agricultural reformer.
Thomas Coke, 1st Earl of Leicester, KB (17 June 1697 – 20 April 1759) was an English land-owner and patron of the arts. He is particularly noted for commissioning the design and construction of Holkham Hall in north Norfolk.
1744 and 1837 creations. The Coke family is descended from the noted judge and politician Sir Edward Coke, Lord Chief Justice from 1613 to 1616. Through his son Henry Coke, his great-great-great-grandson Thomas Coke was a landowner, politician and patron of arts.

In 1837, at the age of 83, Thomas William Coke accepted the re-created title ‘Earl of Leicester’ from Queen Victoria. In the same year a new inn was built, which, of course, was named The Victoria Inn.
