Born on February 11, 1671, Hannah Callowhill, Jr., was the sixth of nine children and the only one to survive to adulthood. She was named after her mother and in memory of her parents' third child, an earlier Hannah, who had died in infancy. Her father Thomas Callowhill was a buttonmaker and linendraper, or cloth merchant.
