Dmitar je bio srpski župan, sin Vukanov, unuk Stefana Nemanje. Kao monah David postao je svetitelj u Srpskoj pravoslavnoj crkvi . O njemu ima malo podataka i retko se pominje. Zna se da je u aprilu 1271. molio vizantijskog cara Mihaila VIII Paleologa da potvrdi Hilandaru neki posed na reci Strumi.
