Combermere School. Combermere School is a school in Barbados, notable as one of the oldest schools in the Caribbean, established in 1695. Its alumni include several leading cricketers, David Thompson, sixth prime minister of Barbados and other politicians, several authors and the singer Rihanna.
Combermere is one of the oldest secondary schools in Barbados and is one of the oldest in the entire Commonwealth. The school was also the first to offer secondary education to lower class blacks on the island.

About Us. Combermere School is certainly one of the oldest, if not the oldest, secondary school in Barbados. The foundation stone at the present site cast the origins of Combermere School to 1819. Research takes its origins back to Drax’s will of 1682.

Recently, the performance of Combermere School was brought into the limelight as 14 students kept the flame burning brightly and showed the zeal and enthusiasm which has been a distinctive characteristic of our school going back, at least, to the 1800s.
