- About Us
Fitzwilliam College is a constituent college of the University of Cambridge. The college traces its origins back to 1869 and the foundation of the Non-Collegiate Students Board, a venture intended to offer academically excellent students of all backgrounds a chance to study at the university.
Fitzwilliam College is a diverse and friendly college with a rich history and modern facilities. It offers guaranteed accommodation, a 24/7 library, and a range of activities and events for students.
Fitzwilliam College – affectionately known as Fitz – is a friendly and welcoming community, founded in 1869 to widen access to Cambridge. With about 140 students in each year, our students and staff create an amazing community and make sure that the college is a warm and supportive space for both studying and socialising.
Having moved to its present site in the north of the city, Fitzwilliam attained collegiate status in 1966. Female undergraduates were first admitted in 1978, around the time most colleges were first admitting women. Fitzwilliam is now home to around 500 undergraduates, 400 graduate students and 90 fellows. [5]
