Michael Spinks is a former professional boxer who won world titles in two weight classes: light heavyweight and heavyweight. He defeated Larry Holmes, Gerry Cooney, and Mike Tyson, among others, and retired undefeated with a record of 31-0.
Spinks was the Lineal World Heavyweight Champion from the time he defeated Holmes until his loss to Tyson. Spinks announced his retirement from boxing on July 27, 1988. The Ring Magazine named Spinks the third greatest light heavyweight of all-time in 2002.
Spinks defended the heavyweight title with a fourth-round knockout of Stefan Tangstad in 1986 but was stripped of his IBF crown five months later. He knocked out Gerry Cooney in June of 1987 and declared himself the People's heavyweight champion.
