On November 27, 1978, George Moscone, the mayor of San Francisco, and Harvey Milk, a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, were shot and killed inside City Hall by former Supervisor Dan White.
After 36 hours of deliberation, the jury announces its verdict in the Dan White trial, finding White not guilty on the murder counts, but guilty on two counts of voluntary manslaughter. Following the verdict, a protest erupts in S.F.'s Castro district, with the crowd chanting, "Avenge Harvery Milk!"
