Bathory was a Swedish black metal band formed in Vällingby in March 1983. Named after Hungarian countess Elizabeth Báthory, they are considered pioneers of black metal (alongside Venom and Mercyful Fate) [3] [4] and Viking metal.
Bathory was one of the pioneers of the first wave of black metal and Viking metal. Formed in 1983 by Quorthon, Jonas Åkerlund, and Frederick Melander, the band didn't come up with a name until the recording of Scandinavian Metal Attack.
