Michael Elmhirst Cates FRS FRSE HonFInstP (born 5 May 1961) is a British physicist. He is the 19th Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge and has held this position since 1 July 2015.
Mike Cates is a leading researcher in soft matter, active matter and nonequilibrium statistical physics. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society, the US National Academy of Sciences and the US National Academy of Engineering, and has won several prestigious awards and prizes.
