Henri Marie Raymond de Toulouse-Lautrec-Montfa ( Albi, 24 de noviembre de 1864- Saint-André-du-Bois, 9 de septiembre de 1901), conocido simplemente como Toulouse-Lautrec, fue un pintor y cartelista francés, que destacó por la representación de la vida nocturna parisina de finales del siglo XIX.
Toulouse-Lautrec's debt to the Impressionists, particularly the more figurative painters like Manet and Degas, is apparent, that within his works, one can draw parallels to the detached barmaid at A Bar at the Folies-Bergère by Manet and the behind-the-scenes ballet dancers of Degas.

Leur rencontre est due à une amie commune, la cantatrice Marie Dihau (1843–1935) dont tous deux ont immortalisé les traits. Degas ouvre le bal en 1867, récidive entre 1869 et 1872, peignant la jeune femme assise à son piano.
