'Blow Out' (1981) is a great thriller written and directed by Brian De Palma, starring John Travolta as a movie sound effects technician who accidentally records a murder. The film has a great Hitchcock style touch to it and is one of the best thrillers of the 1980s.
De Palma may be the most inconsistent of the New Hollywood movement, but when he hits, he hits. Through being the dark horse of that movement, he carved himself out a nice little niche. But yeah, Blow Out is great. It does a great job playing in the world of 70s paranoid thrillers while feeling fresh and compelling in its own right.
