Osako Suguru finished fourth in a national record of 2:05:29, shaving 21 seconds off his own mark, in the Tokyo Marathon on 1 March 2020. He secured his place at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, unless someone else breaks his record in the final qualifying race.
