Alexander Crichlow Barker Jr. (May 8, 1919 – May 11, 1973), known as Lex Barker, was an American actor. He was known for playing Tarzan for RKO Pictures between 1949 and 1953, and portraying leading characters from Karl May 's novels, [1] notably as Old Shatterhand in a film series by the West German studio Constantin Film .
Lex Barker was an American actor who starred in five Tarzan films and several adventure movies in Europe. He was a direct descendant of Roger Williams, the founder of Rhode Island, and spoke four languages.

Barker made only five Tarzan films, but he remains one of the actors best known for the role. His stardom as Tarzan led him to a variety of heroic roles in other films, primarily Westerns, and one interesting (and quite non-heroic) part in a World War II film, Away All Boats (1956) .
