Bankhead II fue senador, como ya lo habían sido su abuelo, John H. Bankhead I, y su bisabuelo, Thomas Patterson Brockman.
Tallulah Brockman Bankhead was born on January 31, 1902, second daughter of William and Ada Bankhead . Just two weeks later, Ada Bankhead died. Consequently, Tallulah and her sister Eugenia , who was one year and one week older, lost their father, as he distanced himself in order to come to terms with his grief.
