Ronald Ray Cyrus (July 10, 1935 – February 28, 2006) was an American politician and public servant in Greenup County, Kentucky. A member of the Democratic Party , he was elected to the Kentucky House of Representatives for 11 consecutive terms, from 1975 until he retired in 1996.
Ron Cyrus was a Kentucky politician and the father of country singer Billy Ray Cyrus. He died of lung cancer in 2006 and was honored by his granddaughter Miley Cyrus in her songs and films.

Billy Ray Cyrus was born on August 25, 1961, in Flatwoods, Kentucky, to Ron Cyrus, a steelworker who became a politician, and his wife, the former Ruth Ann Casto. Cyrus started singing at the age of four. His parents divorced in 1966. His grandfather was a Pentecostal preacher.
