Pierre Bayle (French:; 18 November 1647 – 28 December 1706) [3] was a French philosopher, author, and lexicographer. He is best known for his Historical and Critical Dictionary, whose publication began in 1697. [3]
Pierre Bayle (Carla-le-Comte, hoy llamado Carla-Bayle, 18 de noviembre de 1647- Róterdam, 28 de diciembre de 1706) fue un filósofo y escritor francés. Junto con Bernard le Bovier de Fontenelle, 10 años más joven que Bayle, es considerado la gran figura de la primera Ilustración.
Pierre Bayle, un filósofo francés del siglo XVII, es conocido por su obra maestra «Dictionnaire Historique et Critique». A través de esta obra, Bayle desafió las convenciones intelectuales de su tiempo y sentó las bases para el pensamiento crítico y la Ilustración.
Pierre Bayle was a seventeenth-century French skeptical philosopher and historian. He is best known for his encyclopedic work The Historical and Critical Dictionary (1697, 1 st edition; 1702, 2 nd edition), a work which was widely influential on eighteenth-century figures such as Voltaire and Thomas Jefferson.
