Oriel College (/ ˈ ɔː r i əl /) is a constituent college of the University of Oxford in Oxford, England. Located in Oriel Square , the college has the distinction of being the oldest royal foundation in Oxford (a title formerly claimed by University College , whose claim of being founded by King Alfred is no longer promoted).
Oriel excels on the sports field and the river. We have a dedicated music room, and a vibrant chapel and choir. The college has a dedicated welfare team and offers help with bursaries, travel grants and scholarships for academic excellence, encouraging applications from all backgrounds.
Founded in 1326 by King Alfred, Oriel College is the fifth oldest of the University of Oxford’s colleges, with the majority of its buildings dating from the 17th century onwards. Oriel’s main buildings incorporate four medieval halls, including the oldest standing hall in Oxford, Tackley’s Inn.
