Released on August 14, 2001, it peaked at number two on the US Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart and number four on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart that year. "Wish You Were Here" would later be included on the 2009 greatest hits compilation Monuments and Melodies .

Alex Katunich, known by his stage name Dirk Lance, was the original bassist for Incubus. He was with the band from its formation in 1991 until 2003. During his tenure, Katunich’s funky and melodic bass lines were integral to the band’s early sound, contributing to albums from “Fungus Amongus” through to “Morning View”.
