Laureat m.in. trzech nagród Independent Spirit Awards za filmy Pi (1998), Zapaśnik (2008) i Czarny łabędź (2010) oraz Złotego Lwa na 65. MFF w Wenecji za film Zapaśnik (2008). W 2024 roku uzyskał polskie obywatelstwo [1] .
