John L. Hennessy (Huntington, New York, 1952) earned a PhD in Computer Science from Stony Brook University in New York in 1977. That same year he joined the faculty at Stanford University, where he rose to become president of the institution (2000-2016) and now heads Knight-Hennessy Scholars, an international graduate-level scholarship program.
John L. Hennessy is Director of Knight-Hennessy Scholars, the largest fully endowed graduate-level scholarship program in the world. He is Chairman of the Board of Alphabet and serves on the Board of Directors for Cisco Systems and the Board of Trustees for Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation.
