He is best known for creating animated cartoons featuring popular characters including Betty Boop, Popeye The Sailor, Koko The Clown and Superman. He is considered one the three major pioneers of American animation of the 20th Century, along with Winsor McCay and Walt Disney.

Max Fleischer was een belangrijke Pools-Amerikaanse pionier in de ontwikkeling van de tekenfilm. Samen met zijn broer Dave Fleischer richtte hij in 1921 in New York de filmstudio Fleischer Studios op. Daar ontwierp hij enkele klassieke tekenfilmfiguren, zoals Betty Boop, Popeye, Koko the Clown, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer en Superman.

És el pare de Betty Boop i Koko el pallasso, i qui va portar al cinema a Popeye i al Superman animat. També es va encarregar de realitzar unes quantes innovacions tecnològiques.
Max Fleischer, registrado al nacer con el nombre Majer Fleischer, fue un dibujante, caricaturista, cineasta y escritor polacoestadounidense de origen judío, uno de los pioneros en la creación de dibujos animados. Fue el autor de Betty Boop y de Koko el payaso, y llevó al cine a Popeye y al Superman animado.

Pero Max fue más que un desarrollador de dibujos animados, es uno de los pioneros en las técnicas de animación que hasta hoy se conservan y con las que se convirtió, junto con su hermano Dave, en el principal competidor de los estudios Disney.
