We would love to be able to welcome visitors to school, as usual, but while this is not possible we have tried to encapsulate the key elements of our school in these films.

  2. Dr Challoner's reputation extends back to the early 17th century when the school began educating the boys of Amersham and the surrounding area. Now the school is widely recognised as one of the leading state grammar schools in the country, and is home to 1300 students aged 11-18, including girls in our co-educational Sixth Form.

  5. 2024 marks the 400th anniversary of Dr Challoner's Grammar School (DCGS) which was founded in 1624. As this book illustrates, DCGS has kept true to the vision of its founder, Robert Chaloner, through offering an excellent education to local students. The anniversary book documents the amazing history of DCGS.

  6. The history of Challoner’s is characterised by one thing: change. It is 394 years since Robert Chaloner, rector of St Mary’s Church, wrote in his will the command to his friends ‘to erect a free gramar scoole [sic] in Amersham in Bucks’ and, for 390 years, Dr Challoner’s Grammar School has survived and in fact thrived, becoming a centre of academic excellence.
