As a young officer in the Ottoman Army, he fought the British in the First World War, and won an Iron Cross. In the 1920s, he mastered the arts of insurgency and helped lead a massive uprising against the French authorities in Syria.

Fawzi al-Qawuqji ou Fawzi al-Kaoudji, né à Beyrouth le 19 janvier 1890 et mort le 4 juillet 1977, est un nationaliste arabe qui servit dans l'armée ottomane pendant la Première Guerre mondiale.
