Sir Anthony Browne also obtained his son’s appointment as royal standard bearer, surrendering his own patent of the office in return for a grant to himself and his son in survivorship. The younger Browne accompanied his kinsman John Dudley, Viscount Lisle, to France in the summer of 1546, being given £40 towards his expenses by Henry VIII, and was knighted at the coronation of Edward VI.
