Cleverbot es una aplicación que recolecta datos provenientes de las conversaciones artificiales que mantiene con usuarios de Internet; una vez terminada la conversación la almacena en una base de datos y la utiliza posteriormente para simular inteligencia artificial. Fue presentado en The Gadget Show el 7 de marzo de 2011 y en Radiolab el 31 de mayo de ese mismo año.

A special version of the Cleverbot application has won the BCS Machine Intelligence Competition 2010, after taking part in a quick-fire Turing Test. Cleverbot was running with notably more power behind it than is possible for the online version, with 24 separate instances conferring on their answer.

Y eso era el mismo año de su lanzamiento, sin todo el aprendizaje que tendría durante los siguientes años. Los datos de Cleverbot supusieron una revolución y permitieron el desarrollo de bots para procesos operativos, hasta llegar a la situación que tenemos hoy.
