Ringu 2 has a bit of an interesting history behind it. The original Ringu was based on a novel by Koji Suzuki. Suzuki wrote a follow-up novel called Rasen (aka Spiral), the second book in what was originally a trilogy consisting of Ringu, Rasen, and Rūpu (Ring, Spiral and Loop). However, there are now 6 books in the series.
