Book of Numbers is a 1973 American crime film directed by and starring Raymond St. Jacques. It was produced by AVCO Embassy Pictures, and is the story of two black waiters who team up in El Dorado, Arkansas to run a numbers racket among the poor and working class black community in the 1930s.

Now streaming on: Powered by JustWatch. Raymond St. Jacques’ “Book of Numbers” is an easygoing period comedy about the numbers game, punctuated by a not excessive amount of violence, and ending with a moral which, if it isn’t exactly uplifting, is no doubt true.
The film tells the tale of two black hucksters named Bluboy and Dave (played by St. Jacques and future star Philip Michael Thomas) establishing a numbers racket in the small Southern town of El Dorado, Arkansas during the Depression. Things are going so well for the pair that the local crime boss notices and decides he wants a piece.
