  3. In 1928, The Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre opened its doors. The first class of only nine students had the privilege of being taught by theatre luminaries Martha Graham, Louis Horst, Laura Elliott, and Agnes de Mille.

  4. The theater closed in 1927 but reopened the next year as the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre. The sisters placed the direction of the school under Rita Wallach Morgenthau, and its first class of nine students was taught by Agnes DeMille, Louis Horst, Laura Elliott, and Martha Graham.
