According to Deadline, a revival of the classic “The Rocketeer” is coming to Disney+. “Return of the Rocketeer” will be produced by David and Jessica Oyelowo. David Oyelow (“Selma,” “Star Wars: Rebels”) may star in the streaming film. Ed Ricourt will write the script.
The Return of the Rocketeer will probably serve as a revival movie, rather than a direct sequel. This would make the story easier to follow for people who are unfamiliar with the antics of Billy Campbell’s Cliff Secord – the first person to hold the Rocketeer title.

With almost all of the streamers cutting back on budgets for original films and series, it’s possible Disney wants something different to premiere in theaters rather than on their streaming platform.

The film is based on the comic book character by Dave Stevens and is directed by future Captain America director Joe Johnston. A sequel had long been rumored, with the closest thing being a television series on Disney Junior.
