His songs, such as "The Year That Clayton Delaney Died" and "Old Dogs, Children and Watermelon Wine" are filled with colourful characters and situations. Hall is also the composer of "Harper Valley PTA," which became a million-seller for Jeannie C. Riley in 1968.
