The Taney Home has been restored and is owned, operated and maintained by the Francis Scott Key Memorial Foundation, Inc., a patriotic, non-profit organization founded in 1963 with the purpose of promoting interest in history in general and in particular to bring honor and prestige to Francis Scott Key and other Marylanders.

Roger B. Taney. Roger Taney was born in Calvert County, Maryland, into a tobacco plantation family that owned numerous slaves. As the second son, he was not destined to inherit the property, so he prepared himself for the law. He received his higher education at Dickinson College, from which he graduated in 1795.
