Like his esteemed contemporaries, Dizzy Gillespie and Art Blakey (who both died in the early 1990s), he is now officially a jazz museum exhibit, filed under the heading of ‘bebop’. Except that Parker, despite dying at the age of 34, is still alive and sounding free as a Bird, for those who care to listen.
